Oat milk is a type of milk that is made from oats that have been soaked and then blended. It has a creamy texture and a nutty flavor, making it a popular alternative to dairy milk. Many coffee drinkers enjoy frothing oat milk to create latte-style beverages at home.

Oat milk froths very well! Better than other non-dairy milks. There are entire barista edition lines specifically made with frothing capabilities so you can get those beautiful Instagram-ready lattes and coffee drinks at home. You can use regular oat milk or the barista edition and froth it like traditional dairy milk. The process is very similar to frothing dairy milk, with a few exceptions.

Keep reading for tips on how to make perfect oat milk froth every time.

How To Froth Oat Milk Without A Steam Wand

There are a few things to keep in mind. First, oat milk has lower fat content than dairy milk, so it will not produce as much foam. Second, oat milk can separate when heated, so it’s important to whisk it before adding it to your coffee. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to froth oat milk like a pro!

There are multiple ways to froth oat milk (without a machine)! Essentially what you are doing is adding air bubbles into the milk. This gives it a thick, creamy texture that makes dreamy oat milk lattes.

To start, if you prefer your milk to be warm before adding it to your coffee, heat it in the microwave, you can also froth the milk cold.

Frothing Methods By Hand:

  • Shake
    • Put your oat milk into a jar with a lid (make sure it’s tight!) And shake it like you mean it. This will create foam with large bubbles.
  • Whisk
    • Whisk the oat milk vigorously by hand in a bowl.
  • Pump
    • Use a pump frother; this is a hand frother you can find online. It looks a lot like a french press.
    • You can also use a french press! Pump up and down vigorously for about 12 seconds, or 20 pumps.

Frothing Methods With A Gadget:

  • Use an electric mixer
  • Frothing wand, this makes a very nice foam!
  • Blender, blend your oat milk on the medium setting until it’s at the desired frothiness.

If Your Oat Milk Isn’t Frothing

The ingredients in oat milk do not have the same elements as cow’s milk, so it’s essential to find an oat milk brand and method that gives you the texture you are looking for. The higher the fat content in the oat milk, the better it will froth. This is why the oat milk created for baristas works the best.
